What is your current job and how long have you been doing it?
My current position is Senior Project Analyst. I have been with BOND for over a year. However, I’ve been in the industry for about 8 years.
Why did you choose construction as a career path? What led you to it?
This is a funny story. Construction chose me. I was in my last year of grad school and in need of a job when a recruiter called for a temp position at one of the biggest projects in NYC, The Hudson Yards. I worked there for a couple years, became permanent, loved the people, the environment, the work culture, and here we are today, still in construction.
What do you enjoy most in your role? What inspires you?
I enjoy numbers and money. Both are a huge factor in my role. From staying on track of a budget to alerting the team of potential risk and gains. I’m able to be a part of a project from start to finish. It’s inspiring to be a part of a change in the world. Construction creates changes that impact everyday life and lifestyles.
Do you have any advice for women considering a career in construction?
It’s not a secret that this industry was considered a man’s club. However, I can attest that this has changed drastically. There are many successful women in the industry that have not just gained a seat at the table but been accepted and respected. With that, just be yourself and follow your career path in all avenues you wish within the industry.
What is the biggest challenge you face being in the construction field?
One of the challenges which can also be a strength is having to adjust to different personalities and project requirements at any given moment. Depending on the size of the project we can work with a team of 50-500+. As construction starts and continues, there can be changes made and/or required based on developments of the site. It’s important to adjust on the whim and be prepared for the unknown.
FUN FACT: I love food and dancing.
